3 Things To Remember When You Feel Overwhelmed
Life is full of ups and downs and dealing with them is not easy.
Although we can try our best, there are times when life takes us by surprise and we go from managing our burdens to being overwhelmed by them.
Here are three things to remember when we are facing this situation:
God Wants To Help Us.
There was a man with leprosy who had become so dejected after society ostracized and cast him out, that when he happened upon Jesus all he could say was, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
And Jesus responded with a 'yes' because He was willing.
This should give us hope that no matter what we are going through, we should not give in to the lie that we are alone or that Jesus doesn’t want to help us through it - because He does.
He Wants Our Burdens
“Cast your burden on the Lord for He will sustain you.”
This is a promise that there is nothing that we can go through that is too big for God. It challenges us to try and see what happens when we bring our problems to God.
And Jesus promises us in Matthew 11:28 that if we come to Him, He will give us rest.
If He is the same God who calmed dangerous storms with a single word, then how much more can He do for our situation?
He Is Bigger Than What We Are Facing.
If we truly understood how big and powerful God is, we would walk with a peace that could never be shaken.
Even if we can't fully grasp this revelation in our situation, we can live in a measure of it when we keep focusing on Him.
We can do this by:
Reminding ourselves of His power
Genesis 1:1. "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."
Psalm 95:3. "For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods."
Isaiah 55:8-9. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
Job 26:14. "Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?"
Psalm 8:3-4. "When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?"
By reminding ourselves of His character
1 John 4:8-9. "God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him."
Exodus 34:6-7. "And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation."
Asking Him to reveal where He is in our situation
