This Is The Key To Stepping Into Your God-Given Identity

If you want a grounded life then discovering your identity is key.

However, there are two different identités that we can fall into:

  • Our Christ-given identity

  • Our own identity

Knowing who we are is a gift from God- it:

  • Gifts us with a sense of self

  • Becomes the basis of our decisions

  • Determines our relationships

  • Determines our work

  • Provides the lens we look at life with

When we live out an identity - we enter into a portion of this freedom.

But the fullness of this gift is reserved for living out our God-given identity.

When that happens our lives attract and orient themselves (with minimal effort) to opportunities and people who will only be in line with this identity.

We can expect our lives to acquire blessings like peace, joy, fulfillment, God-given purpose, and healthy/beautiful relationships.

The Key

Biblical humility is how we get this.

Biblical humility differs from the modern definition because:

  • It recognizes and submits to God’s identity for us because it realizes that God’s words, ways and laws are the ultimate authority.

This is different because biblical humility means we risk looking like egomaniacs. After all, God’s identity is always greater than our own.

For example, in Genesis 20, Abraham lied to Abimelech, King of Gerar, that Sarah (Sarai) was his sister instead of his wife so that he would not be killed for her.

Yet, God interceded and made sure Abimelech didn’t touch Sarai because of Abraham. God even told him, “Return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet.”

But he didn’t just give her back. He also sent Abraham off with the wealth of nations.

Modern humility would demand that Abraham refuse this because “it’s too much” and he’s lowly.

But biblical humility says no. I am worthy of this because God has decided to give this to me.

Every Day Tips

There are a couple of ways we can live in this reality:

  • Ask God to reveal yourself to you.

  • Meditate on the fact that you are worthy of good things because you are a child of God.

  • Let go of who you think you are by accepting there is more to you than you’ve met.

  • Develop your relationship with God. The more you stay in His Presence, the more He will reveal who you are.

  • Accept that God knows better.
